T-Mobile vs Microsoft: More Trouble "Kicking" Over the Sidekick Failures?
Many of you have probably heard about all our Sidekick using friends having sad little phones for a little over a week. If you haven't, the quick and dirty of the situation is that about a week ago, the Danger servers that Microsoft has contractually been supposed to manage and guard for T-Mobile went down, taking Sidekick users' data with it. Sidekick’s, unlike, other phones COMPLETELY rely on the Microsoft/Danger servers to access even the most basic functions like Contacts and Text so this data crash is like everyone’s shit hitting the fan and then falling through drains in the floorboards.
In a report from AppleInsider, several insiders closely tied to Microsoft, Danger/Sidekick, and Microsoft's secret phone/Zune project called Pink have come forward with some shady little tidbits about the dealings Microsoft had been carrying out when they were being paid by Sidekick users and T-Mobile to be taking care them.
Some of the major bits from the article:
- Microsoft using the Sidekick/Danger crew to add fuel to it's own project Pink and using the project to create new phones for Verizon (while they were contractually supposed to be developing/caretaking for their EXCLUSIVE agreement with T-Mo!)
- Careless updates and lack of strong data backup for the Sidekick servers
- Incompetent server technicians without Danger server experience
- - Advice on what not to do if you have a Sidekick with any data left on it
And one of the WORST scenarios being investigated;
- Possible Sidekick server sabotage under Microsoft’s watch (or lack thereof)
It’s a great read for trying to find out more about what has been going on that T-Mo and Microsoft are probably legally not supposed to be talking about at the moment.
If you are a Sidekick user, I hope something gets figured out; whether there is a miracle with the servers or T-Mo comes up with a WAY better method of compensation for the trouble Microsoft and Danger have caused you.
